Ogun Man Abducts And Kills His Brother’s Two Children In Bush

Taiwo Ishola, 37, has been remanded in a magistrates’ court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for the murder of his younger brother’s two children.

LIB said that on August 5, 2023, the suspect went to his brother, Idowu Agbaje Ishola’s house in Abeokuta’s Kemta Abata area, and took the girls, Promise, 9, and Testimony, 7, away on his motorcycle.

After their parents arrived home later that evening, the kids were proclaimed missing.

Neighbours informed the couple that they had seen the suspect with the children.

When approached, the suspect originally denied knowing where the children were, claiming he abandoned them at the market but then admitted to killing them and blaming it on the devil’s handiwork.

Later, the suspect confessed to authorities and brought them to the bush, where he slaughtered the children.

On Friday, August 18, police arraigned the suspect on a single count of murder.

F.A. Oyewole, the Police Counsel, requested for an order to remand the defendant under Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of Ogun.

Oyewole requested that the defendant be remanded in the Oba Correctional Centre for 60 days in the first instance, pending guidance from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the prosecutor, Ishola committed the crime on August 5 at 5:30 p.m. on Mile 6 of the Obafe road in Abeokuta. He claimed the defendant murdered Promise Ishola, 9, and Testimony Ishola, 7, the sons of his younger brother Idowu Ishola.

Oyewole also claimed that the defendant killed the children by cutting off their heads and other portions of their bodies with a matchete.

The defendant, according to the counsel, went to the younger brother’s residence and picked them up on a motorcycle when their parents were not around.

He claimed that when the deceased’s parents returned home from work and saw their children were not at home, they went in search of them.

It was then that a co-landlord in their neighbourhood informed them that they had seen the children with Taiwo, his elder brother.

When questioned, the defendant stated that he had not seen the children, prompting the co-landlord to label him a suspect.

This prompted the father of the slain children to report his brother to the police.

During his arrest and subsequent inquiry, the defendant confessed to killing his two nephews inside the bush.

The police later returned to the crime scene and discovered the children’s remains.

Oyewole, on the other hand, stated that the offences committed violated sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.

Mrs Esther Idowu, the Chief Magistrate, directed that the defendant be kept at the Oba Correctional Centre for legal advice from the state DPP.

She then deferred the case until October 16 for further review.
