Plateau State Govt Shut Down Schools Over Rising Insecurity

Due to the escalating insecurity in certain areas of the state and throughout the nation, the leadership of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has instructed the immediate shutdown of all junior and senior secondary schools within the state.

In a statement made public today, November 21, PSUBEB portrayed the move as a precautionary step intended to shield students from any unexpected “security threats”.

The board explained that the closure is short-term yet essential, urging every local government education authority, school heads, and community figures to adhere strictly to the directive.

The statement reads: “The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has directed the immediate closure of schools across the state.

Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close effective Saturday, 22 November 2025. Primary and Day Schools will close effective Monday, 24 November 2025.

This decision is underscoring the urgent need for preventive action. The Board assures parents, guardians, and stakeholders that this closure is a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential threats and to reassure communities that the government is prioritizing the wellbeing of our learners.

The Board calls on all Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to cooperate fully with this directive and remain vigilant”

This measure follows just days after 25 students were kidnapped from a government girls school in Kebbi and an unknown number of students were taken in Niger state today, November 21.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
