Presentation Of Peace Bond Between The People Of Abama, Ikot Okim, Isa Ikwen, In Obot Akara LGA, Akwa Ibom State, And Ariam Elu Elu And Ndiorie, In Ikwuano LGA, Abia State To The Mayor Of Ikwuano LGA; Dr. Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani
The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA received in audience the peace bond from the Peace Committee reached between the Abama, Ikot Okim in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and the people of Ariam Elu Elu and Ndiorie in Ikwuano Local Government Area in Abia at the Mini Army Barracks situated between the boundaries of the two states along Umuahia Ikot-ekpene road.
Receiving the typed and bound documents from the Committee Chairman Chief Archibong Daniel Essien, the Executive Mayor thanked the peace committee for a job well done. According to him this journey of peace negotiation started over a month ago to forestall and stop the wanton killings of innocent young men and women of the warring communities over land disputes.
After the presentation, the leader of the team of the peace committee Chief Archibong Daniel Essien posed the question now that the document has been presented, what next step the committee will take?
First to speak was Chief Bob Tom Efuribe of Ariam Elu Elu who suggested that the committee would have to visit the communities involved.
Speaking further Chief Archibong was of the opinion that the affected communities will be visited to sensitize them on the content and agreement reached by the peace committee. According to him, meeting with the affected communities in OBOT AKARA was very fruitful and successful. Further on the report Chief Efuribe reported that it was a welcome development which was celebrated by men and women in his domain.
When called upon to report on the sister Village Ndiorie, Chief Kelvin Ndimele was absent from the meeting and was ably represented by Mr Peter C. Oba who said he was not sure that such a meeting was held in his village and all efforts to discuss with the village Chief were abortive. He however promised to file reports of the meeting which he promised would be held this Friday on the peace committee platform.
The Mayor called to the attention of Chief Efuribe that the Meeting between Ariam and Ndiorie should be held at the same time and in the same venue.
It was however suggested by Chief Archibong that a larger meeting should be convened and that will be after the committee has received a report from the Ndiorie community.
The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr. Nwaubani frowned that his good friend and counterpart from OBOT AKARA has not been attending meetings and suggested that he should be communicated with and also be informed each time a meeting is scheduled so that he can make his own input and be carried along as the peace meeting progresses.
On that note, he suggested that come next Saturday all plans ranging from logistics, arrangements with all security agencies will be put in place so that two days will be slated between the first and second week in September for the inspection and sensitization of the affected communities in both Local Government Areas of the two states.
The Mayor promised to put figures on paper and reach out to his counterpart on the best way forward to fund the logistics for the proposed two meetings next month.
REPORT FROM NTO- NDANG COMMUNITY.
