Patrice Evra claims that every football team contains at least two gay players as some of them came out to him throughout his career.

The Manchester United star made some shocking remarks about some of the beliefs he heard regarding homosexuality in an interview with the French journal Le Parisien.

He said, “When I was in England, they brought someone to talk to the team about homosexuality. Some of my colleagues said ‘it is against my religion, if there is a homosexual in this locker room, let him leave the club’ and other comments.

“At that time, I said, ‘shut up’. I played with players who were gay. Face to face, they opened up with me because they are afraid to speak otherwise.

‘There are at least two players per club who are gay. But in the world of football, if you say so, it’s over.’

When the event occurred, Patrice Evra did not specify which English team he was playing for at the time.

Before to Juventus, the French footballer played for Manchester United from 2006 to 2014. In 2018, he returned to England and the Premier League, signing for West Ham United until departing in 2019.

During his playing career, he played for famous European clubs such as Juventus, Nice, Monaco, and Marseille. He also represented France with 81 caps.

The Premier League currently has no openly gay footballers, however, clubs have attempted to promote the LGBT community in football.
