Tinubu Begins Reconciliation Process, Sets Up Committees To Meet Obi, Atiku, Kwankwaso

In order to begin the “healing process,” Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, has established committees to meet with disgruntled presidential contenders.

This information was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, a member of the committees.

He said that an All Progressives Congress (APC) committee of elders will soon start holding meetings with the president-fellow elect’s candidates in an effort to console them for their defeat in the just-completed election.

He emphasized that every person who feels wronged would be reached for reconciliation.

“The President-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together,” the governor stated.

The Independent National Electoral Commission pronounced Tinubu the winner of the election on Wednesday with a total vote count of 8,794,726. (INEC).

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), three of the leading opposition parties in the election, have rejected the results, claiming that the electoral umpire did not follow the rules outlined in the Electoral Act 2022 regarding electronic transmission of results. The opposition has also promised to sue to overturn the election results.

Atiku Abubakar received 6,984,520 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) received 6,101,533, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP received 1,496,687.

The former governor of Lagos State extended olive branches to his rivals in his Wednesday acceptance address.

“I take this opportunity to appeal to my fellow contestants to let us team up together. It is the only nation we have. It is one country and we must build together,” he said.

“Whether you are Batified or Atikulated, Obidients, Kwankwasiyya or have any other political affiliation, you voted and struggled for a better Nigeria, a more hopeful nation and I thank you for your participation and dedication to our democracy.

“You decided to place your trust in the democratic vision of a Nigerian founded on a shared prosperity and one nurtured by the ideas of unity, justice, peace, and tolerance,” Tinubu added.
