According to the Federal Government, Twitter has committed to open an office in Nigeria in 2022.
After briefing State House media on Wednesday at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council, Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, announced this.
He went on to say that the federal government’s interaction with Twitter has been quite positive and without disagreements.
Lai Mohammed said ”We have made it clear what we want from Twitter. The end for amicable resolution is very much in sight.
“We appreciate the patience of Nigerians. I want to assure you that we have made very tremendous progress. We have met with Twitter both physically and in writing. We are actually almost there,” he added.
“They (Twitter) have shown a lot of flexibility, the conversation has not been acrimonious.”
Mohammed said that, even though the two have yet to achieve an agreement in three to four areas, Twitter has agreed to create an office in Nigeria in 2022.
Some random comments were gathered, which were made by Nigerians:
@sholawa: Twitter’s biggest mistake would be having an office in Nigeria. Staff will be picked up & intimidated at intervals. Let them keep the ban on, Twitter will be putting young men and women at risk if they set up offices in Nigeria. I don’t care what the conditions are, this is a no
@Ajisafeseyi: Wahala for whoever believes Lai Mohammed that Twitter wants to come and set up an office in Nigeria…
