The Lagos State Police Command has effectively exposed and shut down an illicit internet fraud training center, widely known as a “Yahoo School,” functioning in the Iju region of Lagos State.
A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, indicates that during the effective raid, Police Detectives apprehended four (4) Yahoo specialists who were managing the infamous academy, identified as Chibuike Ihejika, 23; Stanley Ihejika, 22; Obiora Oyediba, 26; and Emmanuel Oyediba, 25.
The remaining six (6) suspects were their apprentices, all of whom were being trained in cybercrime and deceit: Okorie Henry, Otoh Chisom, 20; Okeke Kwufrochikwu, 26; Uchenna Obeji, 26; Minachi Udochukwu, 12; and Chinedu Ukachukwu, 23.
‘’Preliminary investigations revealed that the principal suspects of the facility recruited their trainees from Anambra State, engaged them to commit internet fraud and other related crimes. The proceeds from their fraudulent activities were being confiscated by the principal suspects.
All suspects have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for additional thorough investigation and legal action. Efforts are underway to capture the financiers who funded the trainees’ admission into the school as well as the proprietor of the premises where these unlawful and criminal acts occurred. The owner of the facility is hereby cautioned in his own interest to surrender himself immediately at the SCID Panti from wherever he is concealing himself.
Hundeyin noted that the Lagos State Police Command will guarantee that all suspects are brought before a court for prosecution once the inquiry into the matter is finalized.
He also explained that, in accordance with legal due process, the minor suspect among them, Minachi Ugochukwu, 12 years old, bearing healing scars from injuries on his body allegedly caused by the chief principal suspect to force him into committing the illegal acts, is receiving medical care and being held in protective custody until his family members are located and reunited with him.
He encouraged parents and guardians to keep a close watch on the behavior of their children and wards to stop them from being taken advantage of, enticed, or coerced into criminal endeavors.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
