Family Demands Answers After Bus K!lled Nigerian Woman In Canada

The family of Omotayo Samuel-Pepple, a 49-year-old Nigerian woman who passed away after a bus struck her in Winnipeg, Canada, are seeking clarity regarding the events leading to her tragic death.

On September 16, 2025, Samuel-Pepple was standing at a bus stop when the vehicle collided with her.She was immediately taken to the hospital, suffering from severe internal injuries and multiple fractures. Despite enduring three surgical procedures, she suffered cardiac arrest and subsequently passed away.

Mary Oloyede, her sister, stated that the family is grappling with unresolved questions.

“I would want to know if the driver was impaired. What actually happened? I know the police are still doing their investigation, but we are hoping there will be more information as time goes by,” she said.Oloyede also voiced frustration over the delayed notification, noting that the family was informed eight hours after the incident.

“She was still conscious, she was still communicating at the scene,” she said.

“Even if I was not there presently, at least I would have gotten a friend or, you know, a church member. I should have notified people around her so that they get to the hospital, but nobody contacted me.”

Samuel-Pepple had relocated to Canada in 2024 to pursue studies in human resource management at the University of Manitoba.

Her family shared that she intended to bring her husband and three children, aged 14, 17, and 21, from Nigeria to join her before the tragedy struck.

Oloyede is pressing authorities to ensure accountability for the bus driver and is appealing to the public for any dashcam footage or relevant information.

“If you could share, please, at least I know it’s going to give the immediate family respite to know exactly what happened,” she said.

The incident has sparked concerns about the handling of the aftermath by authorities.Shared Health, Manitoba’s provincial health authority, defended its procedures, stating, “With respect to policy, staff in the adult emergency department do not routinely call next of kin or emergency contacts for every person who presents to the emergency department.

The immediate priority of emergency department staff is to ensure that every patient receives the compassionate and timely care they need.

Once staff were able to gather the necessary information, all efforts were made to make contac Winnipeg police, however, stressed that notifying families is a priority,” the service said.

“We strive to do so in person and without delay. However, there are times when challenges arise — such as difficulties confirming the person’s identity, limited information about family members, or geographic barriers.

“In these cases, we may need help from outside agencies or other jurisdictions.” The police also noted that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, adding, “Traffic collision investigations can be complex, often requiring scene reconstruction, video analysis, and interviews with witnesses,” a spokesperson remarked.Samuel-Pepple leaves behind her husband, children, and mother, who are still struggling to cope with her tragic loss.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
