All About School Life – Episode 3

Hello everyone, welcome to another episode on All About School Life. I will be sharing with you some of my environmental fears as a new student at the Federal University Of Technology Owerri.

During my first days at FUTO, I was very paranoid for two different reasons. At night, I would be very scared for one reason, and during the day, I would be very conscious of my environment for another reason.

All About School Life - Episode 3

The first issue had to do with me being in a new environment. I just recently packed into the lodge we paid for and I didn’t know anybody there. Sometimes I would wake up at midnight and start having silly thoughts. I would be like “what if someone opens this door or window while we (me and my brother) are sleeping and steals everything in this room without us knowing,” then I would stand up and check if the doors are locked or if anybody is in our balcony. I know I locked the doors ooo😂, but I just want to check again “INCASE.”

Though, the fear didn’t last for too long, maybe like two weeks. I got used to the environment, found out that most of my lodge mates lived in Lagos and that even if anyone wants to rob the lodge it would start from downstairs so I am kind of safe,😂.

Then about my second fear. Before I enter the university, I always heard stories of cultist and their terrors in school environments. So I was very paranoid anytime I was outside. When someone is staring at me for too long, I will be like “why is this guy looking at me,” then I will try to avoid eye contact with the person and start walking fast. Sometimes, I will just want to walk fast or enter the school shuttle to where I am going to avoid disturbance.

The fear was not necessarily about them initiating me into their cult group, but that they normally target people and take away their valuable Items. A cultist can see you and tell you “fine boy I like your hand, make I see that phone,” and it will be happening in broad daylight, people will be passing and pretend like they don’t know what’s going on. There was a case of someone going to withdraw money and one random guy approached him and said “withdraw for two” 😂😂😂💔. And you wouldn’t want to be arrogant because you don’t know how many of his group members are around you or if he is armed. So avoiding them is the best way out.

So in my efforts to avoid them, I would make sure I don’t look like a fresher (a year one student) because they like freshers. Freshers look like people that are still new to the environment. They are just coming from secondary school. Carrying big bags, weird walking steps, speaking good English (lol), and any other fresher’s indication. I avoided all this and it kind of worked well for me. Nobody knew my level except I told them. But the truth remains if YOUR TIME has come, it has come. With all your efforts to avoid things like this, you can still fall victim.

Though, I know that these little measures reduce the probability of YOUR TIME coming, I still believe that God is the one watching over me. Psalms 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”

However, cult activities in schools are very low at the moment because of the rise in internet fraud. So there is no need to fear again. No random person will call you and ask you to bail yourself 😂.

So those were my fears and with time they all vanished. That’s it for now, stay tuned for the next episode on Agnesisika Blog. Meanwhile, This is Episode 1 in case you haven’t read it..

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
