Man Bags Life Imprisonment For R@ping Neighbour’s Daughter

Rasheed Wasiu, a man, was given a life sentence by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter.

According to Justice Rahman Oshodi’s ruling, Mr. Wasiu defiled the survivor in a way that was “beastly.”

According to Mr. Oshodi, defilement is a serious felony that carries a mandatory life term in jail.

He claimed that the man had given false testimony to the court.

Mr. Oshodi stated that the defendant denied the crime notwithstanding the overwhelming evidence pointed to the convict’s guilt.

“The evidence shows that you had sexual intercourse with an eleven-year-old girl, and even at sentencing, you showed no remorse. She was your neighbour’s daughter, and she was, to your knowledge, a child, but you grabbed her in the toilet, pushed her to the wall and had sexual intercourse with her in a beastly manner,” the judge said.

“This is unacceptable, and you must be ashamed and punished according to the mandatory sentence. Therefore, the sentence I pass upon you is one of life imprisonment.”

The convict’s name ought to be added to the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register, according to Mr Oshodi.

The judge went on to state that there was continuous proof that the prosecution witness (PW3), the survivor, was eleven years old in March 2018, the month that the incidents that gave rise to this case took place.

According to his ruling, the prosecution has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the survivor was a minor in March of 2018.

The judge said, “It is undisputed that the prosecutrix (PW3) and the defendant lived in the same house in Apapa, Lagos. The crime scene is the general toilet in the house, which is in the backyard, and the IPO gave a satisfactory description of it.

“He stated that the bathroom was beside the toilet, and they were both dark because there was no lighting in the backyard. The survivor explained that she went to the toilet because she was pressed when the defendant forcefully had sex with her.”

In an attempt to refute the accusation, the defence called three witnesses, while the state counsel, led by Babajide Boye, called four witnesses to build its case against the accused.

Exhibits submitted by the prosecution consisted of three documents: the extrajudicial statement of the prosecution witness (PW3), the extrajudicial statement of the prosecution witness (PW4), and the extrajudicial statement of the defendant, who testified as a defence witness (DW1).

The offence violates section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015, according to the prosecutor.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
