When St. Paul was left to his own devices, Saint Luke emerged as a reliable companion, exemplifying the role of a true physician by attending to St. Paul’s needs. A careful examination of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles reveals the significant influence of the Holy Spirit and the steadfast support of Paul in disseminating the word of God to the Gentiles. St. Luke, a Gentile of distinction, possessed unique skills.
As a companion during St. Paul’s confinement, Saint Luke meticulously traced the history of salvation from its inception to Christ, the High Priest, who offers Himself to all of humanity. The mission and message of Christ, communicated through His disciples, as exemplified by Luke, continue to resonate across the globe to this day. The urgency of Christ’s message of peace is eloquently captured in today’s Gospel, which states that while the harvest is plentiful, the laborers are few.
We, too, serve as living embodiments of the Word of God. We act as witnesses and vessels of the Good News, embodying the roles of peacemakers and healers entrusted with spreading hope and gospel values to the farthest reaches of the earth.
These principles are inscribed in our hearts and minds and must manifest in our lives through acts of love, compassion, charity, humility, and selfless sacrifice aimed at enhancing the lives of others. As faithful servants of God, we aspire to share in the hope revealed in Heaven, where Christ resides.
Like St. Luke and St. Paul, we will encounter trials and temptations; however, we should not be disheartened. Instead, we ought to bring our concerns to the Lord in prayer. There are times when God allows His people to feel cornered, facilitating an experiential understanding of their dependency on Him.
Ungodly individuals may highlight our own limitations, propelling us to seek strength in the Almighty, serving ultimately as a blessing. No matter the pressing needs we face, let them guide us toward the vast ocean of divine love. Jesus is quick to alleviate our sorrows and is eager to provide comfort; we should hasten toward Him as He awaits our return.
In our daily endeavors, our focus should not solely be on seeking consolation from God but rather on pursuing the God of all consolations. We must exercise humility and engage in diligent work, utilizing our full potential. Ultimately, in Heaven, all will be unveiled and clarified, erasing any remaining secrets.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
