American soccer star Megan Rapinoe has strongly criticized President Donald Trump regarding his directive that prohibits transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.
In an interview with the soccer magazine MUNDIAL, the ex-captain of Team USA expressed her disagreement with the President’s assertion that he is safeguarding female athletes from transgender competitors.
“Don’t tell me it’s about the rights of women’s sports,” the 39-year-old former Ballon d’Or Féminin recipient stated. “That is totally disingenuous to say that.”
Following his inauguration in January, Trump has issued executive orders mandating that the federal government acknowledge only two genders and another labeled: “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”
Through the latter directive, the Trump administration pledged to withdraw funding from any institution that allows transgender athletes to take part in female sports. Consequently, the NCAA has revised its regulations and now restricts women’s sports to student-athletes designated female at birth.
However, despite Trump’s order claiming to “protect opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports,” Rapinoe maintains that there is a more malicious intent behind it.
“I think it’s just really cruel,” she remarked. “You know, if you strip it all back, it’s just kind of cruel and depraved. This isn’t an issue and you aren’t going to be able to Executive Order trans people out of existence.
“We’ve just gone through a very long period over ten years of really needing to fight just to get to a baseline of, like, equal rights and non-discriminatory behaviour, and when people stop just s***ting on women’s sports. I think we are sort of at that moment.”
Piers Morgan quickly latched onto Rapinoe’s viewpoint online, lambasting her for labeling Trump “depraved.”
“Imagine thinking that anyone who questions biological men playing in women’s sport is ‘’depraved.,'” the 59-year-old Morgan posted on X along with a series of laughing emojis. “Rapinoe is such a fraud.”
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
