Motherhood: Understanding And Addressing Disrespectful Behavior In Teenagers 10

According to psychologists, a teenager’s disrespectful behavior is a yearning for connection and love. It is not easy parenting a teen, and it is a very challenging period that needs to be handled with care. This is because the way we handle it can affect our teen’s development and growth.

Even though we need to correct them, and discipline them when necessary, it must be handled with love.

In the previous article, we started discussing how to handle our teen’s respectful behavior constructively.

Never take your Teen’s Disrespectful Behavior personal
According to research, taking your teen’s disrespectful behavior has never been helpful, rather it can lead to disagreement, conflict, break of communication between you and your kid. Remember this behavior is all about them, trying to discover their personality, and not about you.

Instead of allowing their behavior to get to you and make you feel hurt and angry, you can take charge of the situation by being clear and direct about their disrespectful actions. For Example, if your teen talks back at you or yells because you refuse his/her request, refuse to go on an errand, or do house chores.

You can simply say, ‘’Don’t talk back at me or yell at me, I don’t like it. I will have to take your phone for about three hours until you are more respectful, Have laid down rules, and follow through.

Your child may not like your actions, but it does not matter, what matters is that you take control of the situation, and do the right thing to check his action.
God notices your dedication to caring for your home; He will bless you accordingly. So, be joyful, for a happy mother nurtures a happy home.
