Some Muslim youths are said to have murdered a member of a vigilante group in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory for supposed blasphemy against Islam.
The event occurred at the Timber Shed Market in the Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe, Abuja on Saturday.
At the time of reporting, the incident’s details were still hazy.
It was however said that trouble arose when members of the vigilante group monitoring the timber market sought to arrest some citizens who were strolling around the market.
When the residents pleaded with them “in the name of Allah,” one of the vigilante members allegedly made a blasphemous statement.
The mob descended on him after hearing the alleged blasphemous statement, battered him, and set him on fire.
Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Rations Officer, confirmed the occurrence when contacted and promised to release more information in a statement soon.
