Quintuplets Buried In One Coffin Following Death After Birth

Five premature quintuplets, that were born on January 31st in the evening, passed away on February 2nd.

They were born pre-term (at 25 weeks), according to the doctors, which worsened their odds of survival.

The father of the dead quintuplets, Simon Ndungu, as well as several drivers from Ndung’s business, the 2NK Sacco, were present at the burial.

However, Margaret Wairimu, the mother of the infants, was unable to attend the burial as she was still being treated for postpartum problems and trauma at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.

The babies’ bodies had been preserved at the Nakuru level 5 Hospital morgue.

The bodies of the four girls and one boy were put in one coffin and dressed brightly for burial.

The babies’ father Simon Ndungu’s uncle Francis Kamau expressed his appreciation to Kenyans for encouraging the family through the trying time.

“We have seen the great love from different people in Kenya. Many Kenyans came with their gifts, but unfortunately, we lost the children”, Kamau said at the burial site.

Kamau added that Wairimu, the mother of the children, needed counselling and trauma management treatment.

Daniel Wanganga, Wairimu’s uncle, expressed regret over not becoming a “grandfather of six” following the loss of the infants.

He said, “The young babies left even before I met them, but we thank God for bringing them into our lives, though briefly.”

Wairimu and Ndungu have a daughter, the couple’s firstborn.

The MP for the Bahati Constituency, where Ndungu and Wairimu are from, Irene Njoki, stated that she will support the bereaved family.

She said in a statement read out by her representative, “We were ready to support the family in taking care of the children. That they have passed on, does not mean we change our position. I will still be there for them.”
