Russian Minister Who Criticized Ukraine’s Invasion Is Dead

The deputy science minister of Russia passed away unexpectedly after becoming extremely ill while travelling to Moscow.

According to the Science and Higher Education Ministry, Pyotr Kucherenko, 46, was returning from a business trip to Cuba when his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Russia.

Kucherenko is reported to have been a private critic of the ‘fascist’ invasion of Ukraine.

Despite giving the official CPR, doctors were unable to rescue him. His family claimed that an underlying heart problem was to blame for his passing, although an autopsy is scheduled for May 24.

Independent journalist Roman Super said after the announcement that his “old friend” had discussed his inability to leave Russia as a result of what he dubbed the “fascist invasion” of Ukraine in private.

Diana Gurtskaya, a Georgian Eurovision contestant, and Mr Kucherenko’s 15-year-old son are his only survivors.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, his death is the most recent among prominent Russians. Igor Shkurko, the head of the energy sector, was discovered dead in his jail last month after being charged with accepting a bribe.

According to reports, the two discussed their desire to leave Russia and their displeasure with the invasion of Ukraine.

Roman Super allegedly stated that the minister had instructed him to go and protect his family. He said “In a year you won’t recognise Russia at all. You leave and do the right thing.”

Asked if he planned to leave himself, Kucherenko was reported to have said: “It is no longer possible to do so. They take away our passports. And there is not a world in which the Deputy Russian Minister will be happy after this fascist invasion.”

Asked how he managed in Russia, the official was supposed to have said: “I take antidepressants and tranquillisers at the same time. Handfuls. And it doesn’t help much… nobody can say anything. Immediately crushed like aphids.”

The cause of Mr. Kucherenko’s passing has not yet been determined.

Following the emergency landing, health officials in Starvopol, southwest Russia, stated that one passenger on the flight from Havana to Moscow had been ill.

An ambulance was waiting for them when the plane touched down at Mineralnye Vody airport.

CPR was initiated on the aircraft by medical personnel. Despite the doctors’ best efforts to save the patient, he regrettably passed away, according to a press release.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Russian Federation’s deputy prime minister, and Andrei Guskov, the deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Latin American Department, were apparently also traveling on the plane.

Since the start of the war, a number of politicians and oligarchs have passed away at a young age for unknown reasons.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
