Former NFL Player Says He Slept At Stadium Will Earning Millions

Former NFL standout Chad Johnson has revealed his natural aptitude for saving money while competing at the pinnacle of American football.

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson began making a lot of money after signing his first contract as a rookie for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2001, but he claimed he didn’t spend it on flashy cars and mansions like other NFL newcomers. Instead, he said he opted to work on improving his game.

Johnson, who played in the NFL for 11 seasons, claims that during the first two years of his career, he lived inside the Bengals’ stadium rather than lavishing money on a new home.

“You gotta remember, I stayed at the stadium the first two years because I didn’t want to spend no money,” Johnson told Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’ show earlier this month.

“What’s the point? Why are you telling me to go rent a house, go buy a house, or go rent a condo when everything I need is right here in the facility?

“Showers, cafeteria, TV, couch, gaming system. What’s the point? I was so locked in. It wasn’t about having my own space.”

According to Johnson, his great NFL career was built on a foundation created by his practical approach.

He played for the Bengals for ten seasons before concluding his playing career with a brief spell with the New England Patriots, where he made six Pro Bowl teams.

“I needed that one-year lock-in to catch the rhythm. In the second year I got that rhythm,” he said, adding that Marvin Lewis, the head coach of the Bengals, was the one who ultimately convinced him to rent his own apartment.

Johnson claims that despite earning millions of dollars throughout the course of his career, he was never tempted to splurge on opulent apparel, luxury vehicles, or homes.

The 45-year-old says he never purchased real jewellery during his career and that he still doesn’t see why individuals become overly enamoured with wealth.

“There is nothing I can buy that’s bigger than my name alone,” he said, calculating that he had saved more than 80% of his pay from playing.

“Everybody is caught up in an image, and looking a certain way, being rich. It’s pointless.”
