SATURDAY OF THE NINETEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY YEAR B – 14/8/2021

SAINT MAXIMILIAN KOLBE: PRIEST

READINGS

1st Reading: Joshua 24:19-29; ‘The Lord is a holy God, a jealous God’

Resp. Ps 16; You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Gospel: Matthew 19:113-15: Do not stop the little children from coming to me.

REFLECTION

In yesterday’s gospel, Christ was confronted by the Pharisees with the question of divorce and marriage and after he had made a salient point for Marriage as against Divorce, people brought little children to him. Perhaps, based on a sensitive issue that was discussed the disciples rebuked the children. On the contrary, Christ rebuked his disciples for such actions and he welcomed the little ones and blessed them.

Nothing should stop our children from encounter Jesus. No one not even Parental Guidance can separate us from the knowledge, love and blessings that comes from God. There are various methods of teaching children about Christ and the Catholic faith. Apart from the Sacred Scriptures, Sacred Tradition and Catechesis, there are two other important methods(books) through which our children and we too can deepen our knowledge in the faith.

The lives of the saint and prayer books. The stories of the saints help us believe that we too can become saints (like St. Maximilian Kolbe who sacrificed his life for others like Christ in the prison in Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland) and the prayer books show us several prayers(novena to saints and offering of the day etc.) that can help them develop a mature catholic prayer life. We pray that as children of God, we too may continue to grow in childlike faith and trust in Jesus. With children all over the world, we are the friends of Jesus.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
