St. Luke The Evangelist Feast

God sends us to be his presence in the world. Whatever the message or action is we need to be sure that it is of God and not of us.

2 Timothy 4:10-17
Luke 10:1-9

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. When you read and meditate on the gospel of Luke and the acts of the apostles, one can easily notice the special influence of the Holy Spirit and also that of St. Paul in his life and writings. Paul is said to be the Apostle to the Gentiles, Luke is considered to be the Evangelist to the Gentiles. No doubt, St. Luke was a reliable assistance to Paul; a gentile with a difference. He was gifted with special skills. Probably, one of the seventy-two disciples called by Christ in today’s gospel.

As a companion of Paul in his missionary journey, he traced carefully the history of salvation right from its beginning to Christ, the High Priest, who offered himself to all humanity.
In his writings, we can immediately see the urgency of Christ’s message of peace, joy, and deliverance. This mission and the message of Christ to the world as carried out by Luke to all peoples is of great importance to this very day. The harvest is rich but the laborers are few. God sends us to be his presence in the world – to preach with our person, our attitudes, and our hopefulness. Whatever our message, whatever our actions, we need to be sure that it is of God and not of us.

Luke and Paul gave testimony to Christ through their perseverance in suffering. For when we are weak, we are made strong. Whatever our morning’s need may be, let it be like a strong current that bears us as witnesses to the ocean of divine love. Himself. Jesus removes our sorrow, he delights to comfort us. Let us hasten to him while he waits to meet us.

As we go about our daily task. Let us not seek only consolations from God but rather seek the God of all consolations. Let us be humble and work silently and actively as we should with all the capacities we have. In heaven, all will be revealed. All will be made clear and then there will be no weeping and suffering anymore. May our Mother Mary who had no consolation at the foot of the cross be our consolation through Christ Our Lord.
