Do Not Miss The Healing Power Of Jesus

MON, 5TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B)

Saints Paul Miki and his Companions,
Martyrs.

Genesis 1:1-19
Mark 6:53-56

Today we begin to read from the Book of Genesis and in today’s passage (Gen 1:1-19) we read of the first four days of creation. The author is not presenting scientific truth but is writing the basic truth that after creation sin came into the world and in need of cure and healing, the Lord comes to save his people and redeemed them to this very day. God is the Compassionate Lord of Creation who has a plan for us.

Today’s Gospel speaks of the faith of the people. As soon as, Jesus landed on the other side of the lake, (Gennesaret) again, he was surrender by the crowed. All those who gathered around him know that Jesus can cure them. So they left all their works aside and ran to Jesus. They hope to touch him even just touch the fringe of his clothes. More than this, they hope to touch him and whoever touches him with faith will be well again. All who gathered there came with certain demands to Jesus. Christ’s fame had spread throughout the countryside and the people brought also to Him their sick whom He cured. God created everything there is in the multiverse. He holds all of it in view and so He is aware of our challenges, struggles, difficulties, strives and the things that afflict us. He always responded personally and compassionately, and never treated us as “dilated refugees of people in need”. By faith, we touch the fringe of his garment.

What is this whole idea of touching the garment from? Already Moses spoke about the Messiah and in psalm 91, we are told in verse 5 that. God will protect us under the shadow of his wings. And still in verse 15 , God wanted us to know that He is our shelter, our healer, our protector and so he instructs them to put tassels at the fringes of their clothes to remember who God is. For He is my refuge, my savior and I trust Him. He will cover you with His feathers and protect you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armour and protection. In Num 15, God wanted to remind them that they can find shelter under the shadow of His wings,
The word wings and corners of their clothes are coincidentally the same meaning. In other words, God is telling us that the fringes, the corners of their tassels is a reminder that God is a healer, a refuge they can trust and this is the imagery in Mark chapter 6. In Malachi 4, the prophet says, the Son of righteousness will leap like calves in pasture. 400 years later, when Jesus appeared wearing a robe with tassels on the corners and he says how often have I longed to gather your children have long to protect your hen upon chicks but you would not let me. And in this chapter 6, many who came to him for healing and cured even touching the Fringe of His garment.

At what length can we go to Jesus for healing? How desperate are we seeking healing? How can we touch his garments? Or are we just seeking Him only for signs and wonders? Being so aware He is ready to help and heal us if we believe and call on Him from our hearts. What miracles or wondrous deeds have you experienced which revealed God’s love and compassion? How can you help others to experience appreciate the manifold works of God?

Today the celebrates the memorial of St Paul Miki and companions; there encounter with Christ made them Marty’s of faith in Orient world. As they suffered their last agony on the cross, the words of Paul Miki reminds us of what happened to St. Stephen such that at the end of his life his face glowed. We all know that there are a lot of ways we need healing; physical, emotion, mental and spiritual. And there are a lot of ways we receive healing through the doctors, nurses, medicine but l want to encourage us to continue to meet Jesus for healing. Don’t stop Jesus in his move in your life for he is the source of all graces and healing. He is our God, Yahweh Rapha the Lord that heals.

Call out to Jesus today with whatever encouragement and strength to reach out and touch him. Cry out to him today. Touch the fringe of His clothes even now and cry out to him saying Jesus I need healing today. I am broken and I am desperately in need of your help. I need you to touch him one more time today.
God bless.
