Prison Officer ‘Given Gifts To Lie Over Murder Case’

A court heard how a prison staff sabotaged a murder trial after being showered with presents by the defendant.

Wiktoria Bujko, 30, a former Belmarsh guard, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice after submitting a fake confession by a guy on trial for the murder of Iron Miah.

Mr Miah, 40, was shot in the head on November 19, 2019, in east London, and died in the hospital two days later.

According to Prosecutor Crispin Aylett KC, Ali encouraged Bujko to fabricate a ‘completely fictitious description of a confession by Aaron Campbell’.

Mr Aylett claimed that Ali had ‘repeatedly revealed himself to be an appalling liar’ and rewarded Bujko with ‘money, presents, and promises’.

She was employed at HMP Belmarsh, a high-security prison in south-east London, where all three offenders were being kept awaiting trial.

Bujko issued a statement on October 17, 2022, just before a retrial was about to begin, describing a discussion she claimed to have overheard between Campbell and another inmate in the prison healthcare unit the previous weekend.

However, the court was informed that £500 was put into Bukjo’s bank account the day after she gave her witness statement.

According to Bujko’s confession, Campbell and Afflick-McLeod intended to rob Ali of drugs but ran into Mr Miah when Ali summoned him to a meeting in his place.

An investigation of CCTV footage from the unit revealed that Campbell was not present when she claimed to have witnessed the discussion.

Bujko told the jury that she had known Ali when he was remanded to HMP Thameside, where she worked.

While on bail, she sought to be a probation officer and worked one day as a trainee in February 2023 before being let go.

Bujko and Ali both pled guilty to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, and all defendants will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on February 28th.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
